Why do people believe in bald-faced lies?

1. People are easily duped.
2. People are too lazy to learn the truth.
3. Beautiful bald-faced lies are psychologically easier to accept than the cruel truth that we have committed unspeakable atrocities, or that we’re at least culpable for them.
4. Most importantly, we believe in bald-faced lies because they coincide with our own prejudices, which are repeated and reinforced by everyone and every institutions around us as the absolute and indisputable truth.
